With its pharmacy hours falling below 30 a week, Walgreens is looking to boost its staffing with a pharmacy jobs program.
“It’s really important for us to have an increase in our pharmacy staff and we’ve seen that increase in the past year,” Walgarts vice president of pharmacy operations, Brian Kelleher, told ABC News.
“When we started out in the beginning, we didn’t have enough pharmacy staff,” Kelleheer said.
“We had people working in the warehouse and it was a difficult position, we needed to bring in additional people.”
The company announced its first pharmacy jobs opening for 2019 on Thursday, but has not specified how many positions will be available.
It has about 40 full-time and part-time positions, and says it has about 500,000 hours of pharmacy training.
“Our goal is to have at least 500,00 of those people in-house by 2019,” Killeheer told ABC affiliate KHOU.
“So it’s not about the number of people, it’s about what we can do with them.”
Kelleheers pharmacy, in the Houston suburb of Houston Heights, has been operating under a contract with a private company since 2013, when the Walgills owner, Robert J. Walgmans, bought it from Walgers.
The company’s pharmacy workforce is about 20% smaller now than it was at its peak in the early 2000s.
The company says it wants to hire as many people as possible for the job, and said that if you want to apply, you’ll have to fill out a form online.
“If you’re interested, you can get that form by clicking here,” Kalleheers said.
“Or if you have an email address, that is also helpful.”
If you have any questions about the Wal-Mart pharmacy program, you’re asked to contact Kellehes company.
